Just as a point, how restrictive are those countries on the right to have firearms?
I was a CO at ROSP for six years and know what trash is there. Hey I met some inmates that would do there time and not cause me any problems but then you had some that thought we owed them something. Yes they are people but they are people without a conscious. These folks are not your check forger or pick pocket. These guys are the worst of the worst. I saw one of my friends with 7 or 8 holes in him because an inmate decided he was going to stab someone today. My friend is okay (happened in 1999) but the guy that did it did not get one day more for it because the Commonwealth Attorney at the time failed to file charges within the appropriate time frame. These convicts have more rights that the victims.

Ok, with that answer...what would be a just sentence then? I mean the guy got more time, was that gonna stop him??? No question there are some horrible, horrible people (and I struggle to use that word in reference to some of them) but I mean Red Onion and Wallens Ridge were among the highest levels of 'bad', but even being in places like that didnt stop them, so sometimes you have to realize you're not gonna change some people.

Ive worked in the Department of Corrections for years and I see it every day...no one has ever disputed that criminals are getting lesser punishment nowadays for more violent crimes because you can see it all around you...Virginia is the 2nd toughest state in the union on violent criminals and thats a little scary because I've seen with my own eyes some of the light sentences these guys have received for brutal crimes.

What are/were your duties within the Department of Corrections?
Answer to all rape scenarios. Absolutely put to death any convicted rapist, no exceptions, I bet the rape stats go way down very fast. Its time for some vigilanty type hangings. Damn liberals are running this country into hell, and we sit back and take it. I will never vote for any person that has a donkey for a mascot, or should i say jackass.

Well I personally think the issue isn't liberal or conservative but people who are so close minded that they think one is always right and one is always wrong, thats what is ruining this country. You might get some decent people to run for offices and you might get the people in the offices to do their jobs if they didn't just think by throwing out a few soundbites that their supporters love amd all would be well.

Probably more restrictive than we are but I can't answer that because I don't know for sure. Some people feel like they need their guns more than ever now just in case to protect their families from the type of people we are talking about so what do you say to those people? If you limit law abiding citizens from owning guns then it puts them at a disadvantage self-defense wise because we all know you aren't going to prevent criminals from gaining access to guns because they are not going to purchase them within the parameters of the law anyway.

I thought we were having a rational discussion but just to comment on what you are saying...yes we could get tougher on those types of crimes too....I don't think I mentioned the death penalty for anything other than violent crimes against others...I could also include crimes of a sexual nature against children.
Note: Obstructing Justice could be a very serious crime depending on the scenario, except in Buchanan county where there are so many Justice's that its hard to walk down the street with out obstructing one of them [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
